The LDE Centre for Global Heritage and Development is offering free guided walks to discover Leiden and its hidden gems. These guided tours are part of Leiden 2022 City of Science, where science, culture and society meet and connect.

The guided walks organised by the Centre for Global Heritage and Development are a great opportunity to discover one of the most charming towns in the Netherlands, city of books, breeding ground for innovative science and Nobel laureates and - last but not least - home to the oldest university in the country.

With our guides, you will discover the intriguing lives of many lesser-known scholars and intellectuals who called Leiden their home, such as Simon Stevin: a brilliant linguist, mathematician, chemist and military engineer, who created the Dutch words for 'mathematics' (wiskunde: the science of what is certain) and 'astronomy' (sterrenkunde, the science of stars) or the talented Lizzy van Dorp, the first female lawyer to appear before the Supreme Court, who then became an economist and women's rights activist.

Our free walking tours will take place in English. The first walking tour will be on:
