The Centre for Global Heritage and Development (Leiden University, Delft Technical University and Erasmus University Rotterdam) and the VU Amsterdam research institute CLUE+ organize the Re-Scape colloquia for young researchers and graduate students, to be inspired by experienced academics, learn from each other by sharing knowledge and progress on their own research. However focused on students and researchers, the colloquia are open to anyone with interest in the theme of heritage and environment.
The next Re-Scape is scheduled for October 5 in Leiden. Our guest speaker will be David Bodenhamer. Bodenhamer is Executive Director of The Polis Center and professor of history at Indiana University - Purdue University, Indianapolis, US. He is a specialist in the area of of spatial humanities, and closely involved in the rapidly developing field of 'deep mapping'. He is co-editor and author of the book Deep mapping and spatial narratives (2015). His forthcoming publication on the topic will be Making deep maps.
Participants will be offered an introduction to the development of deep mapping, including its intellectual roots, its application in a variety of disciplines, and its trajectory as a form of scholarship. Since the first part of the colloquium will be focusing on intellectual / theoretical issues and the second on practical issues, tips & tools, we ask participants to have projects/ideas in mind to think through approaches, methods and problems.
