LDE Re-scape Roundtable at IPHS

Re-scape Roundtable at IPHS

Research on spatial heritage is scattered over many academic disciplines, such as planning, planning history, architecture, architectural history, archaeology, urban history, landscape studies and heritage studies.  The Center for Global Heritage and Development  and research institute CLUE+ work on putting this topic higher on the academic agenda. By working together, the TUDelft, Leiden University, Erasmus University and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam strengthen existing networks  and stimulate exchange and cooperation between academics of these and other academic institutions. The long-term perspective is to make the studies of theories, methodologies and practices of the history, heritage and design of rural landscapes and urban environments prominently visible in the academic world. Not only will this lead to a stronger recognizability of the cross-disciplinary research field, it could also result in better perspectives on funding and international cooperation. This roundtable, chaired by dr. Linde Egberts of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam who is also guest researcher at TU Delft, addresses the agenda of this network : what topics within this field should be most prominent? How should we reach out to academic communities and the general public. What role can Digital Humanities play? And what long-term perspectives should we keep in mind? And are there any similar networks elsewhere in the world that we could learn from and get in touch with?

The Re-Scape initiative is launching itself through this roundtable at IHPS. In the upcoming academic year, the Re-Scape Colloquium will be launched; an event that combines key-note lectures of international speakers in this field with PhD presentations and graduate thesis sessions. The colloquium will be alternatively hosted by each of the participating universities, enabling colleagues and students to visit each other and build a sense of community. Researchers and students from other universities are more than welcome to join!
