Dr. Steffen Nijhuis is Associate Professor of Landscape Architecture and Team Leader Landscape Architecture Research Programme at the Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment, Delft University of Technology (the Netherlands).
He is an expert in landscape architecture research of cultural and designed landscapes employing GIS as tool for reconstruction, modelling, analysis and visual representation. Of particular interest are estate landscapes and polder landscapes, focussing on the integration of cultural aspects, spatial design and engineering. He led projects such as The Polder Atlas of the Netherlands, Mapping Urbanized Deltas, the Dike and Polder-GIS of the Netherlands, Estate landscape Veluwe-Oost, amongst others. He also authored and edited several academic books and published various peer-reviewed and indexed journal articles. Next to being Series Editor of the Research in Urbanism Series and Advisor to NGO’s, governmental and regional authorities, he is member of several scientific committees and review boards, and guest lecturer at several international universities. Furthermore he coordinates the Landscape Architecture MSc-Graduation studio and is supervisor of MSc and PhD graduation projects.
