Elena Fazio

Job title
Communications Officer Centre for Global Heritage and Development

As Communications Officer Elena is dedicated to further familiarize both the general public and the academia with the activities of the Centre for Global Heritage and Development. Her short-term goals are helping to manage the day to day operation of the Centre for Global Heritage and Development website, to support the social media activity and to develop the LDE newsletter.  In the long term, Elena plans to set up and implement, together with the Manager, the LDE communication strategy and to further promote the Centre.

Elena studied at the University of Genoa and completed a Bachelor of Arts with major studies in preservation and management of cultural heritage, art history,  archaeology, and history. Her thesis on industrial archaeology examined the preservation and restoration of several gasometers across Europe, which led her to study and travel to Austria and Germany on a regular basis. She has a keen interest in industrial heritage and its conservation and integration into the contemporary urban fabric.

Besides her role at Leiden University, Elena has been working for a tour operator designing and organising cultural and educational tours worldwide; her area of expertise is Central and Southern Europe. These programs explore a particular area of interest – design, architecture, literature, archeology, landscape architecture – and offer unique insights into cultural traditions. These tours offer rewarding, exclusive, in-depth travel experiences: behind-the-scenes visits to archives, museums, libraries, and studios, access to private homes and palaces, and meeting with international experts.
