More than a hundred years ago, the first Chinese people arrived in Amsterdam, a city already characterized by a diverse population. These Chinese newcomers established shops and restaurants around the Nieuwmarkt and Zeedijk areas. Yan Zhou and Diwen Tan (TU Delft) are conducting research into Chinese heritage, the visible traces of the Chinese presence in the city.
At Huis de Pinto, they present an overview of Chinese characters and symbols visible throughout the neighborhood. On November 21 at 4:00 PM, Yan Zhou will discuss her research, and Chinese snacks will be served. As part of the exhibition, a calligraphy workshop will also be held on November 21 at 2:30 PM. Reservations are required.
Additionally, an exhibition on Chinese heritage in Amsterdam is on display at the OBA Oosterdokkade.
