On Thursday 16th of April, LDE Global Heritage and Development organises an afternoon event focusing on understanding and conserving historic public open spaces in the Netherlands.

Moving beyond building-oriented conservation approaches, the event aims to highlight society-oriented perspectives, collective memory, narratives and participatory processes, and to discuss new approaches and innovative strategies for sustaining the cultural significance of historic squares, streets, and parks that are under the pressure of rapid urban transformation. We want to rethink the meaning, value, and conservation of historic public open spaces. We want to combine knowledge of scholars and practitioners, in the broad range of history, heritage, design, and governance, including among others architects, planners, designers, archaeologists, and anthropologists…

Join us during this afternoon event with lunch, lectures, debates, and collective reflections.

The meeting is free of charge, but we kindly ask you to register for catering before 14th April 2026.
