Date: Wednesday 24 May 2023, 12:30-14:30 (NL time/CET) OR 16:00-18:00 (SL time/IST)
To commemorate 70 years of diplomatic relations between the Netherlands and Sri Lanka, the LDE Centre for Global Heritage and Development and the Netherlands Sri Lanka Foundation have organised a series of web seminars delving into different aspects of Dutch-Sri Lankan collaboration in the fields of research and heritage.
After the session that took place last October on property law, ownership and ethics, water and urban heritage and cultural tourism, a new seminar entitled "To Give or Not to Give Back? Considerations, Concerns and Actions Regarding Artefacts of the Colonial Period", has been announced and will take place on Wednesday 24 May 2023.
During this particular session, we will explore the meaning, value(s) and significance of shared history/heritage cultural objects for The Netherlands and Sri Lanka. Even though these reflections could be about the heated debates about the restitution of colonial objects, the aim of the present conversations would be about understanding the context of such debates and with the ambition of contributing towards more constructive and practical outcomes.

The event is free and proudly supported by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Sri Lanka.
