Booklaunch and Symposium on Dutch Post-war Migration

On June 3rd the book 'Holambra, de Moeizame Beginjaren van een Stukje Nederland in Brazilië' ('Holambra, the Difficult Starting Years of a Piece of Netherlands in Brazil') by Dutch historian Mari Smits was offered to the Brazilian Ambassador, His Excellency, Sir. Piragibe dos Santos Tarragô. The event was organized by the Huygens Institute for Dutch History and the Centre for Global Heritage and Development.

Hans Krabbendam (Roosevelt Study Centre) and Marijke van Faassen (Huygens Institute) talked about Dutch migration to the United States and Australia and described the differences in organization and government intervention. Marco Roling (Centre for Global Heritage and Development), talked about the experiences, results and lessons learned from the TULIPANA project, which deals with digitization and accessibility of migrant heritage collections in Brazil. Final speaker was Mari Smits, on his work:

My work is about telling personal stories that are sometimes unknown on the other side of the Atlantic.

The Ambassador received the first copy (in Dutch) with the promise to present him the first Portuguese version as well, which will be published later this year.
