Book launch about Holambra, the most prominent Dutch colony in Brazil

Start date
End date

Holambra, the ‘flower city’,  is a vibrant Brazilian community with a Dutch background. It is a prosperous community with the flower auction as its beating hart, attracting many visitors who are curious about the specific Dutch traits and the park like surroundings. It is a place that unites Brazilian and Dutch history.

Dutch historian dr. Mari Smits has written a book concerning the starting years of Holambra. This book is the result of joint Dutch-Brazilian efforts to promote shared cultural heritage and the exchange of knowledge about the Dutch migration to Brazil. The book will be published both in the Netherlands and Brazil.

The Centre for Global Heritage and Development in cooperation with the Huygens Institute for the History of the Netherlands (Huygens ING) will organize a symposium to celebrate the launch of the Dutch version of the book. The book will be offered to the Brazilian Ambassador, His Excellency, Sr. Piragibe dos Santos Tarragô. The event will take place at the Huygens ING, Prins Willem Alexanderhof  5, 2595 BE The Hague. Please find the program through the link underneath.

The publication was made possible through DutchCulture, Unger van Brerofonds, Prof. van Winterfonds and the Prof. dr. H.F.J.M. van den Eerenbeemtfonds (Erfgoed Brabant).
